If you find yourself in Helena, Mont., wondering what to do, how about having dinner in a tipi?
Pat Hansen, columnist for The Montana Standard did exactly that. The Last Chance Ranch, located just south of Helena, treats guests to a gourmet prime-rib dinner and entertainment by singer-songwriter Bruce Anfinson.
After a bus ride from Helena, guests are taken by horse-drawn wagons from ranch headquarters “through a forest of tall evergreens and shimmering quaking aspens” to “an idyllic sun-washed mountain glade with two large tipis and a cabin.”
The atmosphere is relaxed as guests are served dinner featuring fresh green salad, tender prime rib, pan-roasted red potatoes du jour, sautéed spring vegetables, fresh, hot rolls, huckleberry cheesecake and pots of steaming cowboy coffee.
As guests are enjoying their dinner, Anfinson regales the crowd with cowboy poetry, songs, and ballads.
You can make reservations from June through September by calling (406) 442-2884 or (800) 505-2884. The price is $69 per person, which includes bus transportation to the ranch and back to Helena, dinner and entertainment.
