Don’t give in to “in this economy” thinking, mon

There seems to be one phrase that is on all of our minds lately. “In this economy” appears to be hijacking our personal lives, businesses and certainly hindering our annual travel dreams.

“In this economy” becomes an obsessive mantra and often a common excuse for all the things not going our way. When we give into “In this economy” thinking, it brings us to a standstill.

Well, instead of letting the doom and gloom of this economy permanently distort our vision for our lives, why not see it as an invitation to do things differently? So many of the stresses of this economy are out of our control, so lets take this opportunity to seek newness with infectious positivity.

Disappointed about the Caribbean getaway that now seems unrealistic? Can’t justify the $200 per night resort even when they drop their prices by 50 percent?

It’s time to do things differently. Put the gated resort and overpriced drinks on hold for awhile and let your adventurous spirit lead you to the Caribbean at a fraction of the cost.

Fly into Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Jump into a taxi for a one hour ($50) ride to the quaint marina town of Luperon, one of the safest hurricane holes in all of the Caribbean. For roughly $15/night, grab a room at the intimate “Casa del Sol”. This is not a resort by any stretch of the imagination, but a clean place to rest and peaceful spot to enjoy a cup of Dominican coffee in the mornings.

Beautiful beaches are only minutes away. The town of La Isabella, the historic place of Christopher Columbus’ first European settlement in the New World, is only a quick motorcycle ride away. If you’re looking for some of the most beautiful and adventurous natural waterfalls, you’re only a short trip from Imbert. And, if you want to serve the local people by helping to build a house for a family in need in the villages, contact the Village Mountain Mission.

The landscape and charm of Luperon will make you fall in love with this hidden Caribbean gem.

“In this economy”, try something different.
