A friend just sent this first video to me. It came serendipitously at the same time I met with friends who had just returned from a trip to Buenos Aires and Patagonia where they had a chance, while in the city, to learn a bit about Tango.
This first video is an afternoon flash opera happening last month in a Buenos Aires shopping center in the Palermo District of the city. That, together with an evening of stories about Argentina, got me to thinking about Tango, so I collected a few of my favorite Tango scenes. Take some time, relax and enjoy.
Antonio Banderas tangos
Antonio Banderas stars in Take The Lead modeled after ballroom dance teacher Pierre Dulaine who brought his program to inner city schools giving kids confidence by teaching them how to waltz, cha cha and do the tango. The Spaniard who has done a bit of dancing himself opposite Chita Rivera in the Broadway musical Nine says he dared to tango in the film.
Al Pacino’s classic tango in Scent of a Woman
One of my favorite performances by Al Pacino. I found myself staying up late several weeks ago as this story unfolded. This dance routine was delight.
Tango Argentina
This is the way it is really done. This is perhaps the most popular tango video on YouTube, and rightly so.
